Lady and the Puppies Update

On March 2 a nice man brought 5 crying puppies to the Oahu SPCA.  He found them in a small box in front of the Sack and Save in Nanakuli.  Jessica, our vet tech, determined that they were only 2 days old and healthy very but hungry.  In our large database we found a volunteer who had a lactating female dog without puppies.  She was contacted immediately and the puppies were taken to her home where they found their new Mama.

Here's a video of their first day together:

And here they are now... a strong and healthy group of five!!

Pet Friendly Realtor

Not only was realtor Melanie Long of Pacific International Realty named one of the top 100 realtors in Hawaii in 2010, 2008, and 2007, but she has also generously agreed to donate 25% of her commissions to the Oahu SPCA. What a winning combination!

Just mention "Oahu SPCA" when you work with her and our shelter will receive 25% of her commission from the purchase or sale of your property. We encourage all home buyers and sellers out there to visit
http://www.PacificIntlRealty.com or give her a call at 808-394-9223 to learn more. If you were in the market for a home anyway, why not contribute to a great cause at the same time?
Please mention this great opportunity to everyone you know!

Thank you on behalf of all the 150+ dogs and cats at our no-kill shelter in Kapolei and the many volunteers who work to find them forever homes!

Dice Run Recap

Bikers from various clubs around the island revved up their engines to come out to support the Oahu SPCA at a fundraiser recently held by a local motorcycle club, Kahu O Na Holoholona (Guardian of the Animals).  Bacardi and Geico were also sponsors of the event with proceeds benefitting the care of more than 75 dogs and 60 cats at the no kill shelter in Kapolei.

Participants on the four stop run also had the chance to take a tour of the facility and visit many of the animals and meet the staff and volunteers.  According to Executive Director, Jody Bade-DeViney, the fundraiser brought additional exposure from the community and proved to be a busy one for them that weekend with nearly 24 dogs and cats finding forever homes.   “This is an example of how a community-based organization has banded together to come to the aid of a grass roots non-profit animal rescue shelter,” added Stephanie Ryan, OSPCA President and Co-Founder.

A special mahalo to Bryan and Amanda Beland for all of their incredible efforts to make this event a success!  If only the world were full of more kind, generous people like the two of you!

We love receiving photos and updates on our former shelter animals in their happy new homes.  Sometimes they come through Facebook posts and sometimes new owners send emails, but either way they really brighten our day!!  Here are some of the recent photos we've received.  Hope they brighten your day too!

Happy Endings

Despite the chaos of the tsunami weekend, we were fortunate to have many families open their homes to our rescue animals.  Dogs Kolohe, Dolly, Ward, Radar, Pedro, Tamale, Chocolate, Paco, Chibi, Zaid and Alex were adopted along with cats Inkspot, Zambucca, and Barney.

Dogs Riggs, Carlos, Petey, and Verona went home to foster-to-adopt families and dogs Sherman and Sammie went into foster homes.

Thank you to everyone for their continued support!  Without you we would not be able to further our mission and find forever homes for our shelter animals.  Thank you again!!

Microchipping This Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday at Petco Pearl City (11am to 4pm) during their national adoption weekend, the Oahu SPCA will be offering microchipping services for your pets.  It costs a mere $24.95, but it could save your pet's life one day!  Not to mention all proceeds go to the shelter to help our animals find forever homes...

Read more about microchips here in a 2010 blog post by the Oahu SPCA.

And... read a February 2011 story of a dog named Bear who was lost in Sacramento, CA and ended up in Lakewood, WA - 715 miles away!  Bear's microchip allowed the Tacoma Humane Society to contact a very relieved Bryan Rapozo, who drove all the way to Washington to reclaim his beloved companion.

Happy Endings

Last weekend we were grateful to have many foster-to-adopts, adoptions, and finalized foster-to-adopts.  Dogs Maxine, Scooter, Taffy, Kahi, Bonzai, and Hunter (all shown below) found foster-to-adopt families.  Dogs Henry, Arizona, Virginia, Cuffs, Nora (all shown below), and Brewsky had the great pleasure of finding their forever homes!  Dogs Jesse, Biggie, Annie, Abby, Ky-Ree, Mama (all shown below), and Dieter also had their foster-to-adopt families finalize their adoptions.  Cats Copcat (shown below), Catherine, Jaguar, Cougar, and Drew were also adopted!

That's 24 animals in one weekend!!
